Parking

Car parking is limited in and around the hospital. There are limited spaces in our underground car park with some reserved for blue badge holders. There is also the Q-PARK opposite and some on-road parking.

We do appreciate that parking can be costly so if you are finding this difficult, please speak to the nurse in charge or contact PALS to see if there is anything we can do to help.

We believe it is important to inform you that any profits generated from car parking charges are reinvested into frontline care to support the children and families we are proud to have in our care.

Drop off/pick up

The main entrance turning circle is for drop off and pick up only for all vehicles with a maximum 10 minute time frame. The drop off and pick up point is monitored by automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) and a Parking Charge Notice of £100 will be issued if the 10 minute time window is breached.

Emergency Department

There are a limited number of spaces on Western Bank for families to park for free when attending the Emergency Department only. You must collect a permit from the Emergency Department reception to display in your car window while parked here.

The space in front of the Emergency Department is for ambulance/police/fire vehicles only – any other vehicles including taxis and private vehicles are not be allowed. Any vehicle in this area will be subject to a Parking Charge Notice of £100 being issued by the ANPR system.

Q-Park Durham Road

The Q-Park Durham Road car park is directly opposite the new hospital wing. Ticket prices are:

Up to 1 hour £2.50
Up to 2 hours £4.50
Up to 3 hours £6.50
Up to 6 hours £8.50
Up to 8 hours £12.50
Up to 10 hours £16.00
Up to 24 hours £18.00
Evening 6pm-2am £4.00
Saturday and Sunday £5.00 all day

Underground car park

A fully chargeable pay and display underground car park with 26 spaces is available on Clarkson Street for patients and their parents / guardians / carers only. There is a ticket machine facility, a pay by phone option (via avalonpay.net/1222) and an automatic number plate recognition system. Vehicle owners have until midnight on the day of parking to purchase a ticket covering their stay.

Parking for cyclists

There are spaces to park your bike if you wish to cycle to our sites. We ask that visitors bring their own bike lock to secure their bikes.

• Hospital – Bike parking is available near the underground car park entrance just behind the car park attendants hut.
• Becton Centre – has bike parking spaces at the entrance to Ruby Lodge.
• Centenary House – has bike parking spaces at the front of the building.

Please use the provided storage racks and do not lock bikes to railings as this often obstructs walkways and fire exits.

Sheffield Children’s Hospital car parking patient and visitor costs

• Up to 1 hour £1.50
• Up to 2 hours £2.50
• Up to 4 hours £3.70
• Over 4 hours (up to 12 hours max) £8.40
• 12-24 hours £20
• Overnight stay (6:30pm-7:30am) £2.50
• Cars staying over 24 hours will be issued with a £100 Parking Charge Notice

Concessions are available in certain circumstances via the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS).

Blue badge holders

Blue badge holders benefit from free parking, and should inform a Car Parking Attendant upon arrival. A valid blue badge must be displayed when parking.

If an attendant is not available, holders should call 0114 271 7352  (weekdays 8am to 4pm) or 0114 271 7000 (weekends, public holidays 4pm to 8am).

Public transport

The hospital is well served by buses and close to the tram route. We encourage all parents and visitors to the hospital to use public transport.

Parking at other sites

• Ryegate Children’s Centre – parking is limited on the site and restrictions apply on surrounding streets.
• Becton Centre – has a free car park for patients and parents and further spaces on the road outside. However, the car park can be very busy at peak times.
• Centenary House – limited parking is available on site. Please sign in and leave your car registration at reception.
• Northern General – has considerably more parking available although at peak times this may be very busy.

A number of disabled parking spaces are available at these sites and for blue badge holders there are some opportunities for on-street parking nearby.

Did you know that you may be able to claim back travel expenses on journeys to and from the hospital when escorting your child?

Eligibility for free parking

Sheffield Children’s Hospital is committed to ensuring we apply the Governments strategy of free parking to groups that may be frequent hospital visitors, or those overly impacted by daily or hourly charges for parking. Free parking is offered, in this car park to the following groups:

Free Parking Concession – Type A

1. Frequent Outpatients’ attendees who have to attend regular appointments to manage long-term conditions (three scheduled visits per month or more).
2. Any patient who has been diagnosed with cancer and who is attending the hospital for a course of treatment.
3. Parents, Guardians or next of kin spending prolonged periods of time sitting with a relative who are considered to be at end of life stage.

If you believe you meet this category, please speak with the Ward Manager, Outpatient Reception Team or the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) Officer.

Free Parking Concession – Type B

1. Blue Badge holders (The Blue Badge holder should be the driver or a passenger).
2. Parents of Children who are in the care of our Neonatal Surgical Unit (NSU).
3. Parents of sick children staying overnight – Parents can park free in this car park after 5:00pm until 7:30am the following day (applies 7 days a week).
