If your child needs a blood test as part of their appointment, this will be done in the Outpatients Blood Room. This includes patients attending appointments at the Cystic Fibrosis Unit, Hearing Services and Child Assessment Unit.
Patients who have an appointment at the Ryegate Assessment Unit will also need to go to the main Outpatients Department Blood Room if a blood test is required. An appointment will be made for you.
Your consultant may have requested regular blood tests and you will need an appointment to have these done. Your consultant or nurse specialist should arrange these for you but they may send you a letter asking you to phone the Appointments Line on 0114 305 3691.
Please note that the Outpatients Department does not operate a drop-in service – you will need an appointment for your blood test.
If your GP has arranged for your child to have a blood test at the hospital, you need to visit the walk-in blood test clinic in the Haematology and Oncology outpatients area.
This area is a short walk from the main Outpatients Department – just follow signs for ‘Blood Tests (GP Referrals)’ to get there.
The clinic is open between 9.15am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
When you arrive take a ticket from the machine and take a seat in the waiting room until your number is called.
Patients who have blood tests done in the walk-in clinic should have come from one of the following places:
If you have not been referred by one of these places you need to go to the Outpatients Department for your tests.
Blood test results will be sent to your GP. If you were referred by a department within the hospital, results will be sent back to that department.
