Planned transfers and repatriations

neonatal equipment

As well as acute critical care transfers, we also provide planned transfers and repatriations.

If you would like to request a planned transfer please complete the online planned transfer referral form.

Following this referral, one of our team will be in touch to triage the request to ensure the right arrangements for the patient transfer. We will then identify a cot or bed in the desired hospital and try to find a suitable alternative should one not be available. Unfortunately there can sometimes be a delay in a bed becoming available.

On the day of the proposed transfer or when the transfer is possible, we will ring the referring unit to confirm the clinical condition of the patient. This is to ensure the patient is fit to travel and an appropriately skilled team is deployed.

Transfer documentation

Transferred patients need appropriate documentation for their ongoing care.

  • All patients require a photocopy of all relevant recent notes, blood results, drug charts and safeguarding documentation.
  • Neonatal patients should have an up to date Badger summary.
  • For paediatric patients a discharge/referral letter is desirable.
  • If your hospital does not automatically share radiology images with the receiving hospital then please send by PACS
