Like all parts of the healthcare system Embrace is working hard to ensure that we have a response to COVID-19 focussed on the safety of patients. We are making plans to maintain our services at a level that meets the needs of the neonatal and paediatric critical care networks in Yorkshire & Humber. In addition we are working with the wider NHS to ensure that the healthcare service for the whole population is maintained at a safe level. During this time there may be changes to our normal procedures. We will do our best to communicate these effectively but we would ask for understanding as we move through these difficult times.

Embrace is a highly specialist, round-the-clock transport service for critically ill infants and children in Yorkshire and the Humber who require care in another hospital in the region or further afield.

If you need to make a referral to Embrace, or need further specialist advice, please ring the referral hotline on 0114 268 8180.

Our call handlers will then put you in contact with the Embrace Consultant and relevant specialists as required.

The acute call medical control form gives you a clear understanding of the structure of the referral process and the information you will be asked by the Embrace team.

For planned transfers, please use an Embrace planned transfer booking form, which should be printed, completed and faxed to Embrace. The referral will then be triaged and a transport plan agreed and communicated to you.

Guidelines and other documents

We have a series of clinical guidelines which have been written to support clinical teams accessing Embrace. These are a synthesis of best practice used both nationally and in the region. The overall responsibility for the decisions taken in regard to the individual patient concerned remains that of the referring healthcare professionals.

Other Embrace documents including hospital directions, forms and reports are also available to download below.

CAMTS accreditation

camtsEmbrace are fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) for critical care transport of neonatal and paediatric patients by ground, fixed wing and rotary wing vehicles. CAMTS is a US-based organisation dedicated to improving the quality of patient care and safety of the transport environment. Embrace is one of seven international organisations accredited.
