Common questions

Why transfer children/babies?

Embrace provides a service in moving children and babies to ensure that they get the care that they need. They can be moved for the following reasons:

  • If they require specialist care, equipment or surgery which is provided at a different hospital.
  • If your child is improving, they no longer require higher levels of care and can be moved closer to home.
  • If a specialist unit becomes full. It may not have the resources to care for another child.

You can find out more about the transfer process and equipment we use.

Can parents travel in the ambulance?

We are usually able to offer a seat in the ambulance so one parent or carer can travel. This is assuming they are well, not immediately post delivery of their baby and can understand instructions should an emergency occur en-route.

How do parents get to the accepting hospital?

It’s really important to us that the families of babies and children we are transferring have all the information they need about how to get to the hospital we are travelling to and what facilities they have there. Please refer to the our hospitals page for directions and useful telephone numbers. The Embrace team will assist with any concerns.
