The Friends of Sheffield Children’s Hospital are a group of unpaid volunteers who help raise funds to support the welfare and lifestyle of patients at the Trust. The group formed in 1975 when the hospital celebrated its centenary.
Purpose
The Friends’ purpose is to help foster the welfare of children being treated at the hospital and in the community.
Since 1986 the Friends have run a shop in the hospital which sells thoughtful gifts and necessities including toiletries, toys, cards, balloons and knitted baby clothes. The shop is in the Main Entrance of the hospital near the outpatient department and is open Monday to Friday from 10am until 4pm.
The Friends also help to provide special toys and teaching materials requested by staff to help in diagnosis and treatment.
Committee
The committee meets four times a year. All are welcome!
Fundraising and donations
Every year we give £7000 to make sure sick children who are unable to leave the hospital care at Christmas wake up to to find Santa’s delivery made to the bottom of their bed. If you can help with this please visit our Just Giving page.
Volunteering
The Friends of the Sheffield Children’s Hospital are on the lookout for new volunteers to work in our shop, situated near the outpatients department of Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Collectively the shop volunteers are the back bone of the Charity. If you see yourself as a volunteer in our shop, please get in touch using the details below.
As a volunteer you would cover the shop alongside another volunteer for three hours once every two weeks. Duties include interacting with delightful customers, who include the family of children being treated by Sheffield Children’s, and children themselves, who often appreciate support in choosing what to buy.
