On 24 October 60 years ago, Park Hill flats were still being built and the last of the old trams were being taken off the line. Meanwhile, near Crosspool, The Ryegate Therapy Block was being officially opened by the Earl of Scarborough.
A few years later, the hydrotherapy pool was added (it has had an upgrade since!) and then in 1977 the administration unit was added to the Ryegate Children’s Centre.
The Block was originally built for the treatment and research of cerebral palsy but these days it has a wider function. Our varied and dedicated team see patients from 0 to 18 years old and provide extensive therapy sessions including mobility and sensory workshops, orthotic and postural care clinics as well as individual sessions tailored to patients.
If you visit the Ryegate Children’s Centre today, you will see how the wonderful team there have helped prepare it to keep children, patients and staff safe from COVID-19. This includes taking precautions such as social distancing and wearing (Personal Protective Equipment) PPE. They’ve also made a series called ‘Workout of the Week’ to help children stay active at home. To find out more, visit our website here.
Please note, some of the photos in the slideshow were taken before social distancing and PPE guidelines were introduced.
