CBBC Operation Ouch! visits Sheffield Children’s

Children, young people and colleagues from Sheffield Children’s are set to feature in brand-new episodes of CBBC’s Operation Ouch! after cameras spent time filming in our Emergency Department.

Operation Ouch! is a popular CBBC and BBC iPlayer series that helps children learn about the human body, medicine and hospitals through fun experiments and real-life stories.

Over the years they’ve visited lots of wards at Sheffield Children’s, and during the summer they filmed lots of stories with children and young people in our Emergency Department.

We are really proud to share an insight into the the wonderful work of our colleagues caring for children and young people.

Meet Toby

Five-year-old Toby visited our Emergency Department earlier this year after accidentally trapping his finger in a door – ouch!

He was cared for by Dr Anna Rawnsley and Sister Sam Wright among others as his hand was cleaned and bandaged before heading home.

Toby’s mum, Aithne said: “It was our first time visiting the Emergency Department for an accident, but the staff were lovely and put Toby right at ease – he wasn’t scared or intimidated at all.

“It was a busy place but by the time we arrived Toby was full of beans and luckily the bandage put on by school had begun to stop the bleeding. When we were approached by CBBC to take part of the filming, he took to them and was really chatty – telling them all about his teacher. I don’t think that bit made the edit!

“He’s watched it on BBC iPlayer – in fact I think his whole school has. Toby thinks it’s brilliant and that he’s a little celebrity.”

Watch Sheffield Children’s on CBBC

The Halloween special of Operation Ouch! featuring Toby is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer. It will be broadcast on CBBC at 5.40pm on Friday 30 October.

More Sheffield Children’s colleagues, children and young people are expected to feature in a Christmas special and a new series due to air in 2027.
