Sheffield Children’s memorial garden renamed the Reflection Garden 

A special garden at Sheffield Children’s is being refreshed as part of the Trust’s 150th anniversary year, with a new name chosen to reflect the purpose and meaning of the space. 

Following careful consideration and feedback from those connected to the garden, the space will now be known as the Reflection Garden. 

The garden provides a peaceful place for remembrance, reflection and comfort for patients, families and colleagues. It also holds many different memories and connections for people, including organ donors and families affected by historical organ retention. 

The refresh will sensitively preserve existing memorial features, while thoughtfully reusing elements of the current garden wherever possible. The aim is to create a welcoming and accessible space where people can remember loved ones, find comfort and take time for quiet reflection and wellbeing. 

Sheffield is known as one of the UK’s greenest cities, and we know that peaceful places to pause, reflect and connect with nature can play an important role in supporting health and wellbeing, particularly during difficult times. 

The garden refresh is currently underway and is expected to be completed in autumn 2026. 

The Reflection Garden is one of the ways Sheffield Children’s is marking its 150th anniversary year, creating a lasting space that recognises the experiences and memories of generations of children, families and colleagues.
