Sheffield Children’s is proud to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and been accredited as ‘Veteran Aware’ by the National Steering Group for the NHS Veteran Covenant Healthcare Alliance.

Signing the Armed Forces Covenant signifies a commitment to making sure that those who serve or who have previously served as part of the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated with compassion and respect through the care we provide and as an employer. We will continue working to increase awareness of the unique nature of military service, improving awareness of resources available for members of the Armed Forces community across our Trust, and making sure that our colleagues who have been in service or who are currently reservists are supported to fulfil their roles.

We celebrated the news with a marvellous event, which brought together a number of colleagues who swapped stories of their service, learnt all about the Armed Forces Covenant, and heard about how everyone at Sheffield Children’s has a role to play in supporting our Armed Forces community.

Ruth Brown, Chief Executive at Sheffield Children’s, attended the event. Ruth said: “We are very proud to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant. It reflects our commitment to making Sheffield Children’s a brilliant place to work for everybody, including members of the Armed Forces community. I feel honoured to have been invited along to this event, it has been a pleasure to talk to everybody and learn all about their connections with the Armed Forces. There’s a lot we can learn from them in the NHS and at Sheffield Children’s.”

Nick Parker, Chief People Officer also attended the event. He added: “We have a wonderful Armed Forces community at Sheffield Children’s, and we want to do everything that we can to continue to support them. We want to make sure that we continue to create an inclusive environment so that everybody can succeed whilst they’re with us and that we are an attractive place for ex- forces colleagues to work’
