Sheffield Children’s is proud to launch our new online Resource Library. Patients and families will now have access to hundreds of new resources about health conditions, treatments and strategies to look after their physical and mental health in our online library.

What used to be paper leaflets have been digitised and transformed into webpages. This makes each resource more accessible, easier to share between families and caregivers, and better for the environment.

Executive Director for Nursing and Quality, Professor Sally Shearer OBE said: “Families have told us this gives them the reassurance that they’re always seeing the most up to date version of the advice we can provide. The new online Resource Library supports the flexible and child-centred care we provide at Sheffield Children’s. It means we can provide care and advice where families need it, online, out in the community or across our sites around Sheffield.”

The resources have been updated to be easier to read, simpler to translate, and friendlier for children. The resources are now clearer, more inclusive, and compatible with accessibility tools used by people with additional communication needs.

The online library includes an innovative feature that allows it to convert the content on the webpage into a print-ready PDF which can be printed and given to people who do not have a smartphone or internet access. This will help to combat digital exclusion, part of the Trust’s wider efforts to combat health inequalities across the region. Families can also save their most used resources to a favourites list, and even group a number of resources together into a digital folder for easy sharing with a single link.

The library launch is the culmination of a 12 month project supported by dozens of clinicians across the trust. They have worked alongside patients and families to improve existing resources and create new information guides to respond to the needs of families and to support their care.
