Sheffield Children’s is pleased to welcome our new Non-Executive Director, Professor Jaydip Ray DL.
Jaydip’s vast experience and dedication to advancing healthcare resonate deeply with Sheffield Children’s commitment to delivering outstanding care and shaping the future of child health.
He has held multiple senior leadership roles including Clinical Director, Training Programme Director (Yorkshire and Humber), Deputy National Specialty Lead (National Institute for Health Research), Member of Specialist Advisory Committee (Royal College of Surgeons) and Council member of Royal Society of Medicine.
He has served as the High Sheriff of South Yorkshire (2023-24) and has supported and recognised many public, private and voluntary organisations in the county. He is the Deputy Lieutenant for South Yorkshire, a Professor of Otology & Neurotology at the University of Sheffield, and Professor of ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) at Sheffield Hallam University.
Jaydip is also a Trustee at South Yorkshire Community Foundation and Member of International Global Healthy Hearing Ears Collaborative.
Jaydip said: “I’m delighted to join Sheffield Children’s. It’s a progressive and unique organisation. I was drawn to the ethos of the wonderful colleagues, who are creating a healthier future for children and young people. It’s really rewarding to work in a place that cares for children and young people locally, from across the UK, and internationally.
“It’s an exciting time to join Sheffield Children’s too. The 150th anniversary year is coming up in 2026, the helipad has recently been completed and the National Centre for Child Health Technology will follow.
“It’s a unique opportunity and I couldn’t let it pass.”
Jaydip’s personal connection to Sheffield Children’s makes his appointment even more special. He lives locally and his two grown-up daughters both spent time in the hospital growing up and his wife works as a GP in Derbyshire.
Now semi-retired from his consultant career, Jaydip intends to get back into golf and likes to play badminton when his ankles allow him to. We’re delighted to have Jaydip on board and look forward to the wealth of experience he brings to Sheffield Children’s.
