Emergency preparedness training taking place throughout August

Emergency Department from Weston Park
04 August 2026

Teams at Sheffield Children’s will be undertaking routine training throughout August to improve our Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) to look after children and young people during incidents.

The training will take place over two weeks and involve more than 100 colleagues. This will include colleagues practising how to put on and remove specialist Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and operating a decontamination tent.

The decontamination tent will be located outside our Emergency Department, on Western Bank. Signs will be displayed around the area where appropriate to highlight that this is a training exercise.

The training will take place between 12pm and 5pm on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 5 August
  • Friday 7 August
  • Tuesday 11 August
  • Thursday 13 August
  • Monday 17 August

Please remember

You may notice increased activity around Sheffield Children’s during these training sessions, including colleagues wearing protective equipment and a decontamination tent being assembled.

This is not a real incident or emergency. Please do not be alarmed or mistake the training for a real emergency.

The training is designed to help our teams practise procedures, test our response and ensure we are prepared to keep patients, families, staff and visitors safe in the event of a real emergency. Regular training and exercising are an important part of maintaining our readiness and ensuring our teams can respond effectively when needed.

Please do not film or take photos of the training or post on social media.

If there is a real incident in the Trust, we will stop the training and teams will manage the incident appropriately.
