It’s time to announce the winners of the most recent Theo Awards!

Developed in partnership with Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, the Theo Awards recognise and reward members of staff who embody the Sheffield Children’s values of compassion, accountability, respect and excellence on a daily basis.

This month, we’re celebrating the achievements of three individuals, who have gone above and beyond in supporting their teams with the aim of creating a healthier future for children and young people. Take a look at some snippets from their nominations below:

Katie Maciver – Senior Support Worker, Medical Daycare

“Katie has worked at Sheffield Children’s for 20 years now. Spending time working at Ryegate, before moving to Medical Daycare eight years ago. Katie is an experienced and extremely valued member of the team.”

“Katie really embodies our care values. She is naturally a caring and compassionate person and this is evident in how she cares for her patients and colleagues. She is accountable for all that she does and is very proud of her role! She finds her role very rewarding, and is passionate about making the patients experience the most positive that it can be.”

Aaron Phua – Teaching Fellow for the Undergraduate Medical Students (Mar 2024- Feb 2025)

“Having observed and received teaching from numerous colleagues, I feel Aaron goes above and beyond for his students and is among one of the best teachers I’ve seen. Other than being knowledgeable, he knows his medical students who are on placement well, is very good at identifying strengths and weaknesses and gives practical hints for improvement.”

Ruth Morgan – Research Finance Assistant

“Ruth is consistently kind, approachable, and generous with her time with staff. She offers genuine support to every colleague who needs it, often going out of her way to check in and ensure others are okay. Her compassion shines through in everything she does and really lifts the department spirits.”

“Ruth is the backbone for the Research and Innovation department and demonstrates the Sheffield Children’s values.
