Using the library

library shelves

Search for resources using the library catalogue.

Visit the library to join or sign up online.

Community-based staff can read ‘using the library from the community‘ to find out how to borrow items without coming in to the library.

Once you have your library ticket, you can borrow from us.  When returning items please bring them to the counter. If the library is closed there is a book return box outside the library. You are responsible for these items until they are received by library staff.

Items can be renewed (limits apply) if not requested by another user.

To renew your items you can:

  • reply to the reminder email
  • telephone
  • call into the library
  • log in to the catalogue (PIN required)
  • use the library app (PIN required)

Fines are charged for late return/renewal of items.

Library ticket holders can also borrow from The University of Sheffield, check with individual libraries for details and the StarPlus catalogue for additional resources.

Reservations and requests

Contact us to reserve/request items or use the library catalogue or app with your library ticket and PIN.

If you require an item not listed on our catalogue, we may be able to obtain it for you. Please use the book request form (charges apply).

We are happy to receive suggestions for new purchases – please contact us with your recommendations.

Copying / scanning items

A black and white/colour photocopier is available for use for both A4 and A3 copying (charges apply). Charges may be added to a departmental account, ask the library staff for details.

Documents may also be scanned on the photocopier and emailed to an SCH email address free of charge.

It is your responsibility to make sure that any scanning or photocopying that you do complies with copyright, data protection legislation and the Trust’s information governance policy which can be found on the intranet.

If you are unsure, please consult a member of library staff.
