Video appointments

Family using laptop

Some clinics at Sheffield Children’s are now able to offer a video option for selected consultations. If you are offered a video appointment this means you can connect with your health professional by a video call on a platform that has been specially developed for healthcare uses.

Please note that your child must be present during the telephone/video appointment. If for any reason this is not possible the appointment should be re-arranged. If our clinician contacts you and your child is not present they may end the call and you will have to reschedule the appointment when your child is present. This may be recorded as a ‘was not brought’ or patient cancellation and, in line with our access policy, you may be discharged back to your GP.

The guidance below will help you to prepare for your child’s video appointment. You can also find frequently asked questions about video appointments on our FAQs page.

Changed your phone number?

If you change your phone number, call 0114 305 3691 to let us know, otherwise we won’t be able to let you know about upcoming appointments, or provide access to telephone/video appointments.

Attend Anywhere

Attend Anywhere is a secure video call service for patients and families to access outpatient appointments online.

You can use the service on a PC, Mac or an iOS/Android device, using a Google Chrome (for PC/Mac/all mobile devices) or Safari (for Macs and iOS devices) browser. Attend Anywhere will not work on Internet Explorer. Google Chrome and Safari are free to download.

The video call is free (except your internet usage charge).

How do I use Attend Anywhere?

The video below gives you more information about how to use Attend Anywhere.

Before your appointment, you can make sure your device has everything setup as you need – you will need to make sure the device you use has a compatible browser, a camera/webcam, a microphone, and speakers/earphones.

You will receive a text with a link exclusively for you.

  1. Five minutes before your appointment time, enter this link on your chosen device to begin your appointment.
  2. You will be taken through a series of steps to ensure that your equipment is set up correctly.
  3. Once the steps have been completed, you will be prompted to enter your name and telephone number and accept the terms and conditions. This information is not stored beyond the length of the video call.
  4. Once these steps have been followed, click on the ‘Start Call’ button and you will enter the waiting room until your consultation begins. You will see yourself on the video and hear music. The waiting room is private and you will not see other patients.
  5. When the consultation is ready to begin, your image will shrink and move to the corner of the screen and you will see your clinician.

If you are having trouble, please use the Troubleshooting poster to solve any problems.
