The Playing Together group aims to:

  • skill up parents and carers on how to support the development of their child’s social communication skills
  • give parents and carers practical strategies to incorporate into their daily routines
  • allow parents and carers to think about how their child is currently communicating and how this can be developed

How to use the videos

There will be 4 weeks of videos delivered every 2 weeks, so you will receive access to the next video every other week over an 8 week period. This allows you time to put the strategy in place at home and to review it with a Speech and Language Therapist who will also call you every other week.

The videos are all approximately 20 minutes each and it is important that you watch them in full.

In each video you will be told what the strategy is and why you might use it.   This is followed by some examples of the strategy being used and how to set up each strategy with your child (e.g. who will do it, what item/toy/snack will you use, where will you do it).

Talk in your home language

Use your home language during activities and when using a strategy. It is really important that your child learns their home language.

Being able to understand and use their home language will make it easier for your child to learn English.
