Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Service

Ehlers-Danlos information

Welcome to the Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) Service. We see children and adults suspected of having or diagnosed with one of the rare types of EDS from across the UK.

EDS is a group of inherited disorders where skin, joints, blood vessels and hollow organs can be affected as a result of underlying defects in connective tissue.

There are several genetically defined types of EDS including classical, vascular, kyphoscoliotic, arthrochalasic and dermatosparactic EDS. These are all considered rare.

Referrals to EDS National Diagnostic Service

Referrals are accepted from NHS Consultants in Secondary or Tertiary care for both adults and children.
  • The service sees patients who are suspected of having a diagnosis of classical, vascular or a rare type of EDS. The service will also see patients with a known diagnosis of classical, vascular or a rare type of EDS.
  • Patients with hypermobile EDS or Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder are not seen in this clinic.
  • The clinic does not offer management for hypermobility
