Clinical interests
Michael has a full time spinal practice in the National Health Service and appointed as a consultant in 2014. He is involved in all forms of spinal surgery including the treatment of degenerative conditions, scoliosis and deformity, tumours, trauma and infections.
Qualifications and training

Michael Athanassacopoulos trained in the UK and Athens, Greece before fellowships in London and Sheffield. He is a consultant adult and paediatric spinal surgeon.
Michael qualified in 1998. He worked in Greece until 2003 when he began his basic surgical training in Glasgow and Swansea until 2006 and then his Orthopaedic training in the General Hospital of Athens ‘KAT’ in Greece. He specialised in orthopaedics in 2011 and then in spine surgery after completing three fellowships in paediatric deformity surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, in adult and paediatric spinal surgery at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and Sheffield Children’s Hospital and in Bordeaux, France.
