Dr Elspeth Ferguson is a Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology, Metabolic Bone Disease and Weight Management at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. She was appointed as a Consultant in 2022, having previously trained in South Yorkshire and spent a year at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, in Melbourne, Australia.
As part of her work within the Paediatric Endocrinology Team, Dr Ferguson sees children and young people with a range of general endocrine conditions, including disorders of growth and puberty, thyroid dysfunction and adrenal insufficiency. Dr Ferguson has a particular interest in neonatal endocrinology, conditions at the bone-endocrine interface and thyroid disorder. She runs the endocrine surgery clinic alongside Professor Balasubramanian, Consultant Endocrine Surgeon, assessing and managing children and young people who may require endocrine surgery.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Ferguson has a keen interest in medical education and supports a number of research projects across all three specialties in which she works.
