Carolyn went to the University of Sheffield to study engineering in the late 1980s and has lived in South Yorkshire ever since.
After having children, Carolyn retrained as a Medical Secretary and spent five years with the Respiratory Team at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
Following this she joined Doncaster Central Primary Care Trust (PCT) as a Commissioning Officer where she analysed information about Doncaster residents from hospitals around the country, this reawakened her technical interests gained as a student and she developed an expertise in databases and spreadsheets. As a Commissioning Manager for Children and Young People’s Continuing Healthcare, Carolyn was involved in the design and implementation of a bespoke database which was adopted for use for children and adults across other local PCTs.
After accepting voluntary redundancy during the last NHS re-organisation, Carolyn joined Sheffield Children’s in 2012 as Co-ordinator for the National Highly Specialised Osteogenesis Imperfecta Service. This service includes experts from Sheffield, Birmingham, Bristol and Great Ormond Street. Her role is very varied, including arranging peripheral clinics for patients to be seen by the Specialist Sheffield Team at other hospitals across the North of England. Carolyn also arranges meetings within the Trust and across the specialised service. She is also involved with data collection and analysis and supporting the team with minute taking and admin support.
