Hello, my name is Nicola Strafford and I was elected as a Public Governor for Sheffield South West in September 2015. I decided to become a Governor as I am a strong supporter of the NHS and wanted to help support the work of the Trust in these increasingly challenging times. Sheffield Children’s Hospital provides fantastic care and facilities for young people and as one of only four dedicated children’s hospital trusts in the UK I feel very lucky and proud to have it in our city.
I want to act as a voice for people in my area, inputting ideas and feeding back on the Trust’s plans to help it to continue and further develop its excellent work – so do get in touch if you have any thoughts or suggestions.
Since becoming a Governor I have enjoyed being involved in many areas of the Trust’s work including visits to hospital wards, mock inspections, testing the patient systems in the new build before it opened to the public and inputting to the redesign of the Trust’s website.
Outside of my Governor role, I work at the University of Sheffield supporting academics to engage the public with their research. I also enjoy running and in April 2016 ran the Paris Marathon with three friends, raising over £2000 for Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
