Profile

Austen Smith is a senior OMFS Consultant in the South Yorkshire Regional Unit with interests in head and neck surgery, reconstructive, laser techniques and head and neck/intracranial vascular lesions.

He has extensive experience of advanced collaborative neurovascular techniques, technically advanced 3D generated reconstructive concepts and management of difficult iatrogenic diagnoses such as OsteoRadioNecrosis and medication-related jaw necrosis.

He is an elected member of the Specialty Advisory Committee running UK OMFS Specialist Training. Austen represents BAOMS and the specialty on the Training Interface Group governing super specialist areas in head and neck.

He regularly participates in recruitment panels for OMFS and Head & Neck training, is currently rewriting the syllabus for H&N specialist training in the UK and has input to National Expert Working Groups in Head & Neck and Dentistry.

Austen contributes to UK National coding of OMFS and H&N procedures, is on the Surgical Specialty Board of RCSEd for OMFS, and has taught at regional, national and international levels for 20 years.
