Role: Consultant Clinical Scientist - Head of Constitutional Section

Kath joined SDGS in 1995 and is now a Consultant Clinical Scientist and Head of the Constitutional Section which provides high quality testing across a broad range of genetic disorders. Kath is also a member of the Senior Management Team.

Kath’s area of particular interest is genetic testing for the diagnosis of developmental delay. She has worked to develop these services in Sheffield and has been involved with research work to enable this.

Kath obtained her BSc in Genetics from the University of Liverpool in 1992 and her MSc Applied Genetics from the University of Birmingham in 1993. She completed her FRCPath in 2010 to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists. Kath also holds a City & Guilds NVQ Assessor Award and a Continuing Professional and Management Development Diploma.

Kath sits on the CEQAS Specialist Advisory Group for Postnatal Cytogenetics and currently acts as an assessor for the Postnatal microarray scheme. She is also a member of the Association for Clinical Genetic Science Scientific Subcommittee.
