Description of Speciality

I qualified as an adult Nurse in April 2002, and initially I worked in general surgery. Throughout this time I always had a desire to work with children and young people so when an opportunity arose in 2003 to work in School Nursing I took it.

My first post in School Nursing was in Doncaster, during my time there I undertook the Community Specialist Practice course in School Nursing, which developed my skills in this field an enabled me to practice as a qualified School Nurse.

In January 2005 I commenced post working as a Family Health Nurse Advisor based in a comprehensive School, supporting the health needs of children and there families in the local area.

This post involved health promotion, developing drop in services and designing services which engaged the local community. This was a temporary post and when it came to a close I was then employed as a School Nurse Sister at NHS Rotherham.

I spent over five years working in School Nursing in Rotherham, as a Sister, Advanced Practitioner and Team Leader for the School Nursing service. Working in this area developed my management and leadership skills as well as gave me an insight to working with diverse communities.

In Rotherham I worked part of a co-located team with Social Care, education welfare, Police, Health Visiting and CAF team.

I have extensive experience in working with System 1, and am a keen supporter of electronic record systems and technology supporting practice.
