Fran gained her master’s degree in Social Work in 2011, having previously worked in research and in children’s and adult’s hospices. After qualifying, Fran initially worked as a Children and Families Social Worker in Sheffield, before joining Sheffield Children’s Hospital in 2013 as a Social Worker for children and young adults with cancer. Fran joined the Paediatric Bone Disease Service in 2022, in a split role where the rest of the week she works with the Cystic Fibrosis team.
Fran is passionate about ensuring children and young people with OI are able to access the support they need and are entitled to, in order to meet their full potential. Fran can help families manage housing or employment issues relating to their child’s health needs, apply for benefits, seek financial support, assess needs and refer to other services for support, and advocate for families when needed. Fran is available to work with all children and families under the HSS service – her greatest wish is to dispel myths around social workers and what they do, and to encourage families to seek support!
