Barbara Warden trained as a registered Sick Children Nurse / Registered General Nurse in Sheffield and has been a qualified nurse since 1989. After gaining general paediatric experience working on a variety of wards at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Barbara joined the multi disciplinary neurology / neurodisability teams based at the Ryegate Children’s Centre. Working initially as a staff nurse involved in the assessment and ongoing care of children with complex neurological conditions and later as the Senior Nurse in the Assessment Unit.
Following further additional specialised training in the care people with epilepsy, Barbara was appointed as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Paediatric Epilepsy in 1996.
Barbara is the lead nurse for the Epilepsy nursing team and works within the larger neurology nursing team based at the Centre. Working closely with paediatric neurologists, Barbara holds weekly nurse led epilepsy review clinics at both the Ryegate Centre and the Northern General Hospital. Barbara has a particular interest in epilepsy surgery and co-ordinates both the resective epilepsy surgery programme and the Vagus Nerve Stimulation Programme.
