Welcome to the Rhythm and Rhyme Group webpage. On here you will find videos explaining the strategies and activities set out in the homework pack you have received in the post. This video offers a general introduction to what we are working on and why. It should answer some of your questions.
We have recorded these videos to help you and your child. In some cases we have included our children to help you understand the activities and strategies. Please respect our privacy and do not share these videos with others or on social media. If you think you know someone who would benefit from the language groups, please ask them to call Flockton House on 0114 226 2333.
The aims of the group are:
You have been given a password to access the resources for the group. On this webpage you will find videos for group activities and parent strategies. You should try and follow the activities in order. It is really important when working on speech sounds to start simple and gradually build up. This means working on your child’s ability to listen to speech sounds before practising them. The parent strategies can be used throughout the day to help you understand your child and reduce frustration.
The videos are split into two categories:
Click on the headings below to view the videos.
The group activities will give you ideas for fun activities to try at home. These activities will help develop your child’s understanding and talking.
The parent strategies will also help develop your child’s understanding and talking. It might be useful to focus on one strategy at a time.
I’ve completed all the activities, what’s next?
If you get through all the weekly activities, keep going! Repetition is really important for children’s speech sound development. Use the parent strategies as often as you can. For some of your children, the Rhythm and Rhyme group activities and strategies will help your child progress and they may not need more support after this. Other children may need more support from our service.
We understand that it is a stressful time for some families. It is ok if you do not complete all the activities.
We will make contact with you to arrange a face to face review when it is safe to do so.
If you have any questions, please contact us on 0114 226 2333 or 0114 271 7617. Enjoy!
