Playing Together Group: Week 4

Welcome to the Playing Together Programme.

This programme aims to:

• Skill up parents and carers on how to support the development of their child’s social communication skills
• Allow parents and carers to think about how their child is currently communicating and how this can be developed
• Give parents and carers practical strategies to incorporate into their daily routines

The programme uses information videos filmed by Sheffield Children’s Hospital and follow up video consultations with a Speech and Language Therapist. The videos are approximately 20 minutes each and it is important you watch them in full. They will explain what the communication strategy is, why you might use it and demonstrate how you could set it up at home with your child.

We ask you to have a go at the communication strategies and then invite you to attend a video consultation with a Speech and Language Therapist to discuss how the strategies are going.

Use your home language during activities and when using a strategy. It is really important that your child learns their home language.

Being able to understand and use their home language will make it easier for your child to learn English.
