Ryegate House is a fully accessible six bed respite unit with facilities specially designed for children and young people with complex health needs and disabilities.

It provides a safe and comfortable environment, inside and out, where children and young people can enjoy their stay.

  • all bedrooms have hoisting facilities and height adjustable multi-positional beds

  • an extensive toy cupboard with various games, books, craft activities and sensory toys


  • one bathroom with an adjustable height bath, overhead hoist and changing table
  • shower in the main bathroom

  • an extensive fully accessible sensory garden
  • wheelchair swing and roundabout


We have a small kitchen where drinks and basic snacks can be made. Nutritionally balanced meals are prepared and delivered three times a day to the unit after being prepared in the professional kitchen at the main hospital site.


We provide a laundry service for children and young people if needed during their stay.

Moving and handling

To ensure the safety of children and staff we have a number of moving and handling aids. The bathroom and living room have emergency buzzers which can be used by staff if additional assistance is needed.
