Orthopaedic outpatient services are based within the Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust Outpatient Department on the main hospital site.
The Outpatient Department is a major focus for the hospital redevelopment and will have an adjacent Radiology Department, meaning that X-rays and other types of scans will be quicker and easier to access for orthopaedic patients.
Our consultants also deliver specialist outpatient and operating services to Chesterfield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley. Clinics are also conducted at Scunthorpe and Grimsby hospitals.
The orthopaedic team has close links with our state of the art CMAS accredited Gait Analysis Laboratory based at Ryegate Children’s Centre. This allows us to look closely at the movement of legs and feet and the forces acting on joints during walking before making a decision on treatment.
Trauma and Orthopaedics admissions are accommodated on the Theatre Admissions Unit (TAU), Ward S3 and Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) as required.
Our pre-op information explains what we do to prepare patients for orthopaedic surgery.
For more than twenty years we have provided a fellowship programme for surgeons as part of our commitment to training the specialists of the future. A number of nationally and internationally renowned surgeons have spent time working at the hospital.
Our state of the art theatres ensure that we continue to give our patients the best clinical outcomes possible with pioneering surgical techniques and innovative new treatments.
We have a long history of research and our dedicated Children’s Clinical Research Facility was the first to open in the country.
Research papers and journal articles written by our specialists have achieved recognition across the globe.
