Sheffield Children’s Hospital is the Principal Treatment Centre for children and teenagers with cancer taking referrals from within South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and North Derbyshire.
The Oncology and Haematology Unit has a specialist 14 bedded ward (Ward 6) and a dedicated Haematology and Oncology Centre for children and young people with cancer.
The care of patients with solid tumours is managed by three consultant paediatric oncologists – Dr Anna Jenkins, Dr Vicki Lee and Dr Dan Yeomanson.
Patients and their families have access to an extensive team who ensures all aspects of their medical and psychosocial care is co-ordinated to their needs.
All patients are allocated a key worker, one of our paediatric oncology outreach nurses, for the duration of their treatment.
We participate in national and multinational treatment trials for the treatment of solid tumours.
There are weekly meetings to plan and review treatment, working closely with the radiology, surgery and pathology departments to ensure high quality care for patients.
The meeting also includes clinical oncologists and radiographers from Weston Park Hospital who provide a radiotherapy service for children and young people.
