Kingfisher Academy

Kingfisher Academy offers education for all young people who are patients at the Becton Centre and works very closely with health colleagues providing educational and therapeutic input, as part of the overall care/ treatment plan.

Kingfisher Academy provides educational provision for all four lodges, with individual curriculums and timetables for each:

• Amber Lodge – primary provision
• Emerald Lodge/ Sapphire Lodge – Primary/ Secondary provision
• Ruby Lodge – curriculum based on individual need

At Becton, we prioritise core subjects, whilst still providing a broad and balanced curriculum wherever possible. Our curriculum is overseen by Curriculum Leaders and delivered by subject specialists. We also provide bespoke interventions for those that need it.

The curriculum model at Becton consists of 4, hour-long, sessions daily. This includes a therapeutic offer delivered by NHS staff as part of the young person’s timetabled day. All lessons are taught in small groups or one-to-one and young people are supported by teachers and teaching assistants.

For young people following examination programmes it is possible for examinations to be sat on site.
