Requesting additional investigations

sample pots

It may be possible to carry out tests on samples that have already been sent if they are still available prior to disposal or if we have stored material.

If further testing is required, contacting the laboratory directly is the most straightforward way to do this.

For disease testing not available in Sheffield, testing may be available through the Yorkshire and North East GLH or elsewhere in the UK through the UK Genetic Testing Network (UKGTN); access to the Network at present is through the laboratory.

A list of consortium laboratories within the UKGTN network is available online via the UKGTN website.

Tests at other laboratories

Many of the tests sent elsewhere attract a charge. There is a ring-fenced budget for this under the control of the Sendaways group. This group meets regularly and all clinicians are welcome to present a request, either in person, by proxy, by letter or by submission of the appropriate form.

For further information please contact the Head of Department James Steer, or Jackie Cook the Chair of the Sendaways Group, or the laboratory

Tests referred to our consortium partner or to other laboratories can be delayed in reporting due to transfer time and factors beyond the control of this laboratory. Contact can be made by telephone, email, fax or letter during normal working hours.

For information, clinical advice and interpretation please ask for the relevant Head of Section, Administration team or the Director on 0114 271 7014.
