Sheffield Children’s hospital is beginning to roll out new digital ways of working to help improve communication between clinicians.
Staff across hospital wards will be using smartphones or tablets to access new digital systems which will help access patient’s information quickly and securely, improving communication between colleagues.
The systems which will be introduced include CareFlow Connect, which will focus on clinical communication and patient handover, and ICE Requesting, which is a paperless system of requesting investigations. In the future, the Trust will also introduce CareFlow Vitals, which records clinical observations and Electronic Prescribing and Medicine Administration, which is paperless prescribing.
So, remember if you see a member of staff on their phone or a tablet, at the bedside or on a ward corridor, they will be working – accessing the most recent patient information or contacting colleagues securely – not scrolling on social media!
Jenny Longden, Deputy Director of Nursing at Sheffield Children’s said: “We are very excited to be working with our nursing teams to implement the first stage of CareFlow Connect in mid-July. This new system will revolutionise the way we work, using electronic records instead of paper makes it safer and much easier to make sure everyone has the same information about each patient.”
