Road closure outside our Emergency Department

Sheffield Children's exterior
17 March 2023

Whitham Road (A57), the main road outside our Emergency Department at the hospital site, will be closed for roadworks on Sunday 19 March from 8am to 7pm.

Getting to the hospital

This road closure only impacts driving to the Emergency Department for visitors and colleagues. Pavements are unaffected.

It does not affect access to our Main Entrance outpatients, wards or other areas.

You can still access our turning circle to drop off at the Main Entrance, our underground car park and the Q Park opposite the hospital.

We have made arrangements so our emergency services for children and young people will run as smoothly as possible on these dates.

How to access our Emergency Department (ED)

You can still reach the department via the pavements on Whitham Road/A57. For vehicles, diversions will be in place with colleagues supporting to make sure people are signposted to where they need to go.

Access for ED for ambulances and patients will be via Northumberland Road and Damer Street, through a road diversion that will be manned by the roadworks contractors and signposted.

An alternative car park on Damer Street will be available for parents or carers attending our Emergency Department who would usually park Whitham Road.

Colleagues will be in the turning circle on Clarkson Street (at our Main Entrance) and on Damer Street to help direct people.
