Race Equality Network presented with special award from Royal College of Nursing

Our Race Equality Network are presented with an Award by the Royal College of Nursing
16 October 2023

It’s Black History Month and there’s lots going on for our colleagues here at Sheffield Children’s!

Our Race Equality Network has made an enormous effort to support the Trust to make amazing strides in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) over the past couple of years. The Race Equality Network is an open space where ideas can be shared to improve the experience of colleagues from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

They provide an amplifying voice, with movement for sustainable change, to create an equitable and inclusive culture for all colleagues and patients.

So today we’re highlighting some of the incredible work they do.

Last month at our colleague awards ceremony – the Star Awards, the Royal College of Nursing came to  present a special award to our EDI and Race Equality Network colleagues in recognition and celebration of our contribution in Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic nursing, health and social care over the past year.

The work for this award included:

  • Arranging an array of events across Sheffield Children’s in person and virtually to celebrate and raise awareness of race equality, including black history month.
  • Introducing an inclusive recruitment training course that all recruiting managers will need to complete before participating on an interview panel.
  • Improving the working experience of others through a Race Equality Experience project. Fostering an inclusive culture and creating an environment where individuals feel a sense of belonging with the Race Equality Network.
  • Creating a Health Inequalities group which focusses on ensuring our children, young people and their families  have access to equal opportunities at Sheffield Children’s.

Sarah Dodsworth, Regional Director of the RCN for Yorkshire and Humber attended the event to give out the award to colleagues from our Race Equality .

Congratulations to our amazing colleagues for such a brilliant achievement!
