Meet Quita, one of our many therapy dogs at Sheffield Children’s.
Quita is a beautiful ten-and-a-half-year-old Labrador Retriever cross, who loves swimming, running, and eating lots of delicious treats. She’s a very healthy dog and you’ll often find her eating carrots, pears, apples and bananas – see fruit is good for everyone! Prior to becoming a therapy dog with Pets As Therapy, Quita worked as a guide dog from the young age of pup to eight and a half years old.
You might spot Quita around the hospital on Thursdays when she comes to visit our children and young people on wards 1, 3 and 6 in a special dog friendly space where patients can choose to meet her; she hopes to provide some much-needed comfort, distraction and fun. “Quita has such a great personality, she’s very calm, friendly and she loves a good stroke” Jane, Quita’s owner said.
When Quita’s not busy visiting our patients, she sometimes pops along to visit our staff in various departments and sites as she’s beneficial for everyone’s wellbeing. Recently she made a special visit to the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) and the staff had a paw-tastic time stroking and playing with Quita.
Becca, Research Assistant said: “It was so lovely having Quita come and visit the CRF, she’s really fluffy and friendly. She helped me feel happy and relaxed, it really brightened my day!”
We think Quita and her furry friends are great and how could you not agree! See if you can spot Quita and her friends the next time you visit Sheffield Children’s. Thank you to our volunteer team for organising visits from Pets At Therapy and Therapy Dogs UK across Sheffield Children’s.
