05 June 2024

Drumroll please… we’re celebrating our most recent Theo Award winners!

Developed in partnership with The Children’s Hospital Charity, these awards recognise and reward members of staff who embody our values on a daily basis and demonstrate excellence in their work at Sheffield Children’s. These awards are nominated by members of staff across our Trust, but if you’d like to get involved, nominations are now open for the Sheffield Children’s Star Awards. This month, we’re highlighting a top-quality quartet:

First up is Jess Taylor, a Senior Nurse on Sapphire Lodge at our Becton Centre. Jess’ team nominated her for the amazing support that she provides patients and colleagues on a daily basis. They said: “The kindness, empathy and understanding she has for everyone she comes into contact with is inspiring and she truly values every colleague; recognising the diverse skills and experience they as individuals bring to the team and supporting them to reach their potential. “

Kirsten Shaw, a Medical Secretary also based at our Becton Centre, was nominated for her incredible compassion which makes Sheffield Children’s a kind place for patients, families, and staff alike. Kirsten’s team said: “Kirsten is fabulous! She is caring and compassionate to the team she works with and also caring to the young people we support. Kirsten is respectful to her colleagues; she always has a big smile on her face and is always helping! Kirsten is also really caring and supports the families of the young people at Ruby Lodge.”

Maizie Taylor is one of our amazing Quality and Compliance Administration Assistants and forms a key part of our Clinical Governance team. Maizie makes Sheffield Children’s a brilliant place to work by going above and beyond to support her team. The Clinical Governance team said: “Maizie is always cheerful, always happy to help, solutions-focussed and super, super efficient.”

Finally, we learnt all about the fabulous work of Lucy Challenger, our fantastic OPAT Nurse Manager. Lucy was nominated for her inspirational leadership style, alongside her dedication to delivering outstanding patient care. A member of Lucy’s team said: “Lucy is always thinking about supporting patients and staff. Her leadership style is to create a culture of outstanding teamwork with mutual respect. Her communication, empathy, and drive to help out in difficult and demanding circumstances, shows Lucy qualities as a manager and leader.”

We love celebrating our staff, and you can too! We know everyone who works at Sheffield Children’s is a superstar – but we’d love to know who’s shone brightest for you. Nominating for our Children’s Star is your chance to tell a person or team from anywhere across Sheffield Children’s just how much their compassionate care, support, or overall brilliance has meant to you!

Nominations are now open on our website.
