Healthier Together: where to get medical advice over Christmas

We know that injuries and accidents can happen over Christmas – with all the excitement of Father Christmas and busy households! If you need medical advice and support over the festive period we recommend calling NHS 111, visiting 111 online or South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Healthier Together website first.

As always, the Sheffield Children’s Emergency Department is open for children and young people aged 16 and under who need urgent medical care – but by speaking to 111 or visiting the Healthier Together website first, we can make sure our emergency department is used for emergency medical care only.

There is lots of great advice through NHS 111 and on the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Healthier Together website which could help avoid a trip to our Emergency Department. This advice has been put together by paediatric professionals – with advice from simple first aid, guidance on a range of conditions for young babies and older children including rashes, earache, tummy ache to advice on keeping your child safe – please consider accessing this first before making the trip and potentially facing a long wait if it is not an emergency.
