From 1 April 2024, Pathology services at Sheffield Children’s will be part of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology Partnership hosted by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Our labs will continue to be based at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
Welcome to our internationally-renowned laboratories where we test samples, provide diagnoses and help with discovering the pathology of patients’ conditions.
Medical professionals from anywhere in the world can buy tests from us and we have a robust tracking system to provide the results.
The Laboratories at Sheffield Children’s Hospital listed below are UKAS accredited to ISO 15189:2012
ISO 15189:2012 is an international standard that specifies the requirements for quality and competence for medical laboratories. This ISO standard has replaced the Clinical Pathology Accreditation (CPA) standards, which our laboratories were accredited to since their introduction in 1996.
The accreditation process involves annual visits by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to ensure compliance against the standard.
Accreditation provides assurance to users of the Laboratory Medicine service that we are providing the best quality service.
A full list of all accredited tests provided by our laboratories is detailed in their Schedule of Accreditation. Each Schedule of Accreditation can be viewed by entering the UKAS Reference Number in the search field on the UKAS website:
Some tests provided by our laboratories are not included within the Schedule of Accreditation. These tests are managed within the Laboratory Quality Management System. If further information or clarification regarding tests within the Schedule of Accreditation is required please contact the laboratory via the contact details on their web page.
The Laboratories at Sheffield Children’s Hospital comply with the BEIS Policy ‘The National Accreditation Logo & Symbols: Conditions for use by UKAS and UKAS accredited organisations (June 2018), and we therefore kindly request that where our service users make reference to the accreditation status of our service, that they use the phrase “a UKAS accredited medical laboratory No. xxxx”, inserting the relevant UKAS reference number listed above.
We welcome your feedback on what is working well and what improvements we can make to our laboratory services. If you have any concerns, complaints, suggestions or compliments regarding the service that you receive from our laboratory, please let us know.
Patients and parents may provide feedback through the Friends and Family Test, however if you require confidential advice and support to help sort out any concerns you may have about laboratory services, or if you feel the need to make a formal complaint, please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) Manager on 0114 271 7594.
