Clinical library service

This specialist service is designed to support staff in the delivery of evidence-based practice, high quality patient care, clinical governance, education and training, lifelong learning and research.

Bringing the library to you

We know that busy clinicians do not always have time to come to the library or to search for the information they need. We can bring the library, its resources and our professional knowledge, expertise and search skills to you, in your place of work.

We can do this by:

  • attending ward rounds, team or departmental meetings, MDTs, educational meetings and other relevant forums on a regular or ad hoc basis to ensure that evidence is at the heart of patient care and planning
  • searching for the information you need, when you need it, even at the patient’s bedside

Departments currently supported by us in this way include the Critical Care Unit, Paediatric Surgery, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, Infectious Diseases and CAMHS.

Searching for evidence

We offer an evidence searching service, so if at any point you need information to inform your work, to update polices or guidelines, undertake an audit or research project or anything else where you need to be informed by the most up to date relevant evidence and information, then contact us via our literature search request form.

We will do the search within an agreed time frame and email the relevant results to you.

Assisted evidence searches

During an assisted evidence search you will work on a one-to-one basis with the Clinical Librarian as you undertake a Literature Search based on a topic of your choice.

If you would like to improve your own research skills, we offer a comprehensive programme of information skills training, including how to search NHS healthcare databases and critical appraisal of quantitative research.
