Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is working in partnership with the British Academy of Childhood Disability (BACD) to offer high quality distance learning courses in paediatric disability.
Two-year distance learning course
This course includes twelve subject units, delivered in four clinical modules, covering the many aspects of paediatric disability. It complements the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) Paediatric Neurodisability Level 3 Training Programme. Upon successful completion of the course participants are awarded a Diploma from the British Academy of Childhood Disability.
The course is relevant to all doctors currently providing care for disabled children and young people. All grid trainees in paediatric disability are encouraged to take the course as it complements the grid training programme and provides a useful framework to gain the expected competencies.

This course is developed from unit 1 of the Paediatric Neurodisability Diploma.
It is intended to support learning for specialist nurses, paediatricians and any professionals working with disabled children and young people and those following different developmental pathways.

This course is developed from unit 8 of the Paediatric Neurodisability Diploma and provides in-depth training in how to assess and support children with ADHD and their families.
It is aimed at specialist nurses, paediatric trainees and other health professionals working with children and young people with ADHD.
Four-month distance learning course
This course is for professionals involved with assessment and support for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs, including autism spectrum. This includes community, general or specialist paediatricians and allied health professionals, particularly speech and language therapists, psychologists and occupational therapists, as well as nursery, school and specialist nurses, teachers, Special Educational Needs Coordinators in schools, educational psychologists and classroom support assistants.
The course covers the range of communication conditions. Autism spectrum conditions will be looked at separately within the course.
Four month distance learning course
This course is developed from unit 5 of the Paediatric Neurodisability Diploma and provides in-depth training in how to assess and support children with cerebral palsies and their families.
It is aimed at doctors, specialist nurses, education staff and any other health professionals supporting children and young people with cerebral palsies and their families.
