Scout Group

The 1st Sheffield Children's Hospital Scout Group began in 2007 and welcomed their 2000th child in autumn 2014.

Any child in hospital can attend the group - boys and girls of any age, inpatients and outpatients. Siblings, parents and carers are welcome to
join in too.

The group meets every Thursday from 6-7pm in the Cystic Fibrosis Unit which is on Level D of the Blue Wing.

All children who take part in the Scout Group receive a teddy made by the Knitting Nanas!

How to get involved

If your child wants to participate in the Scout Group, contact Scout Leader Kay or speak to the ward manager or sister where your child is staying.

The Scout Group volunteers collect children from the wards before the meetings and bring them back afterwards. If a child isn't well enough to come along then they are given activities to do on the ward and if possible a Scout volunteer will stay with them for the hour.

Activities

The leaders organise a range of activities for children to take part in, from arts and crafts to games and stories. The activities are usually topical so Halloween saw the Scouts making bat bunting while December is filled with festive fun!

Links with other Scout groups

The 1st Sheffield Children's Hospital Scout Group doesn't typically have signed up members, although a few regular attendees have been formally invested into the group. If your child would like to join the Scouts or Guides the team would be happy to give you further information about local groups.

If a child is a member of an existing Guide or Scout group they can work towards badges during the Thursday night sessions. Just tell Scout Leader Kay and she'll make contact with your child's group leader to update them on their progress.

Volunteers

The Scout group has around ten volunteers including students, medical staff and parents.

They also have support 'behind the scenes' including the Knitting Nanas.
