Embrace ambulance

Welcome to Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust's Embrace service.

We are a highly specialist, round-the-clock transport service for critically ill infants and children in Yorkshire and the Humber who require care in another hospital in the region or further afield.

A range of Embrace forms and leaflets are available on the documents page.

About Embrace

Each year our specialist teams of nurses, advanced nurse practitioners, doctors and drivers transfer more than 2,000 infants and children by road ambulances, helicopters and fixed wing aircraft.

We’re based just off the M1 at Junction 37 for easy access to the roads and have specialist teams working from there who mobilise quickly to get to our patients fast.

Our call handling team uses a state of the art call conferencing system allowing Embrace clinicians to provide clinical advice, liaise with other clinical specialists, co-ordinate transfers and find out where available beds are throughout the country.

CAMTS logoEmbrace are fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) for critical care transport of neonatal and paediatric patients by ground and rotary wing vehicles. CAMTS is a US-based organisation dedicated to improving the quality of patient care and safety of the transport environment. Embrace is one of seven international organisations accredited. Your feedback helps us monitor and improve our service - find out how we've acted on feedback from parents and carers.

If you've been involved with Embrace in a professional capacity, we would be grateful if you could complete the receiving hospital feedback form or referring hospital feedback form.

Embrace aeromedical transfer service

We have the capacity to move patients by fixed wing aircraft both within the UK and from abroad.

Embrace has access to equipment that will accommodate babies, infants, children and adolescents meaning that we can transfer patients from birth to 16.

Embrace can also transfer patients by helicopter working with The Children's Air Ambulance or utilising UK Search and Rescue aircraft.

We are also proud to work with Yorkshire Air Ambulance to move specialist medical teams and equipment to our sickest patients quickly.

A parent or carer can often accompany their child but this depends on a number of factors and the final decision will be made during the booking process.
