Our dedicated Clinical Research Facility was the first of its kind to open in the UK.

Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust offers work placements for students aged 16 years and over for up to four days in various clinical areas. Places are limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis. Please note that very few four day placements are available.
Shadowing experience is aimed at students who are 16 years or over and interested in a career in within the NHS. The placement consists of spending a day on a ward, half a day in Radiography, half a day in Orthoptics and a day in Theatre Admissions Unit (nursing) or shadowing a consultant (medicine). Places are limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis.
Students will contact the specific member of staff/department who agrees a placement but they are directed to apply via Workplacements@sch.nhs.uk in the first instance in order to process the paperwork, checks and DBS if needed depending on the length of placement.
These placements are for university students requiring elective placements as part of their undergraduate or pre-registration programme. We recommend checking with your university beforehand as they may already have arrangements in place.
Placements aimed at university students requiring elective placements as part of a postgraduate or post-registration programme. Please check with your university beforehand as they may already have arrangements in place.
Practitioners from any staff group occasionally request to visit either specific individuals or departments for one day. This is particularly useful if you wish to explore other careers or are interested in benchmarking against best practice.
