Help make a difference to children's lives
Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is committed to developing its employees. Investing in people enhances the skills of individual members of staff and is a key part of our strategy to increase the capability of the trust and improve our service to patients. The Board of Directors recognise that every employee has a contribution to make towards the overall achievement of trust goals.
To develop and maximise this contribution the trust is committed to a process of education, learning and development of all staff. It recognises this is vital to ensuring the trust is equipped with the right mix of knowledge, skills and capability to maintain service, reduce risk and achieve the trust’s business aims and objectives.
The trust has an education and training strategy (as part of the human resources strategy) with the following aims:
- To promote the identification of training needs and priorities at individual, team and service levels
- To ensure that all staff can access appropriate opportunities for training, development and learning according to identified and relevant needs
- To support the development of an organisation-wide culture that values training and learning
- To define a framework for the effective management of education and training resources
- The principal objective of the strategy is to provide a framework for the development of trust staff that is equitable, accessible and focused on the skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a complex, changing National Health Service.
- The learning and development department supports the trust’s vision of developing a learning culture by ensuring learning is:
- Equally accessible to all staff
- Flexible
- Relevant to personal and organisational needs
The trust promotes continuing professional development using a number of processes including the Yorkshire and Humber Strategic Health Authority commissioning system. This enables access to a range of fully-funded University-based skills modules which can be undertaken individually or as part of a degree, diploma or master’s career development and study pathway.
