You don't have to be physically in the Illingworth Library to access quality information. Much of it is available electronically (an NHS Athens account will ensure you can access the full range of resources available to you). The Library website acts as a gateway to this information, providing access 24 hours a day. Please visit our pages on journals, databases, evidence for clinical practice, current awareness (coming soon) and document supply for more information.
To help you locate the information you need quickly and effectively, it is important that you plan your search and use the search tools provided by each database.
Download instructions for searching the NHS Healthcare Databases.
Mediated literature searches can be carried out on your behalf by library staff to inform patient care, research and service development. Contact the library to book an appointment or submit your request via the online form. A printed request form is also available.
If you require literature searches to support your continuing education or professional development you are encouraged to attend training in literature searching skills. Visit our training page for more information.
If the articles identified during your literature search are not available online or in print you can use our document supply service to obtain copies. (There is a charge for this service).
Do you need to find evidence to help you provide more effective patient care? Need to find quality patient information resources or critically appraise research literature? The information skills training pages provide details of courses available along with self-help resources.
