Help make a difference to children's lives

Registering for an NHS Athens account allows free access to resources purchased by the Illingworth Library and nationally and regionally by the NHS.
• Healthcare databases – for literature searching
• E-journals – for full text access to journal articles
• E-books – for full text access to online books
• Images – to download medical images
• Evidence for clinical practice. Visit our evidence based practice pages for details
If you are part of the NHS family (employees who work for or deliver services on behalf of, or in conjunction with, the NHS) you are eligible for an Athens account. This includes students while on placements within the NHS. To check your eligibility, click here.
If you register on an NHS networked computer or using an NHS email address, you will receive your NHS Athens account activation email quickly. If you register from your home or non-NHS networked computer there will normally be a delay of about a fortnight. Please note registration is a 2 part process – registration and activation. An instruction sheet on registration is available.
Click here to self register for an NHS Athens account.
Once you have set up your NHS Athens account, you can access it from anywhere via the internet. Use the NHS Evidence Health Information Resources page to use all the resources your Athens account entitles you to.
If you have any problems either registering for an NHS Athens account or using it, please contact us. If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it online by logging into NHS Evidence Health Information Resources page and going to the My Account page.
Visit our training page for details of a course on making the most of your Athens resources.
