Help make a difference to children's lives
Tapton Secondary School student Grace Leigh, completed a 2 week work experience placement at the hospital to help her discover the array of career opportunities on offer at the Trust.
After working hard to help achieve different aims within various departments, Grace reflects on her time here.
“I decided to do my work experience within the children’s hospital so that I could gain an insight into all the different jobs which are available.”
Grace explains: “For a long time now I have been questioning what I would like to be when I’m older as there are so many different opportunities. I decided that the hospital would be a perfect place to do my placement because I like working with children and meeting new people.
“On my first day, I arrived extremely nervous but excited at the same time because I had never done anything like this before. I was kindly welcomed by Ana Lopez from learning and development who showed me up to the Executive corridor where I would be working within the Foundation Trust Office with the team there.
“I found working with these new people extremely interesting as I didn’t realise how much work goes on behind the scenes of the hospital. As the day went on I was learning about the new website and seeing how people work in a real workplace, which was great as this is my first time doing anything like this.
“My first day flew by so quickly, I didn’t do much moving around but I was very tired when I got home.
“There is always work to be done here, whether it be developing the website, answering phones, writing memos, meetings, organising files, sending emails, discussing new ideas, reviewing, editing, printing, copying, meeting new people - the list goes on.
“I have been really lucky to have had a chance to do my work experience at The Children’s Hospital because I have been able to look around, ask all the questions I needed answers for and have had time to think if the hospital is the place in which I would enjoy working. My experience here has been a great one, and I have enjoyed it all.”
